This error appears when the total number of contracts across your leader and follower accounts — including pending and open orders — exceeds the maximum limit set by your broker's or prop firm's Risk Management System (RMS). It can happen even when each individual order is within the allowed contract limit.
Why this happens
The most common trigger is a timing mismatch between your leader and follower accounts. For example, your leader account may already be fully filled while a follower account still has an open order — because of insufficient liquidity, or because the market hasn't reached your limit price yet.
A typical sequence looks like this:
- You place a limit entry order, and it fills on the leader account.
- Replikanto copies the corresponding exit orders to the follower accounts right away.
- If a follower's entry order hasn't been filled yet by the market, that follower now holds both the unfilled entry and the newly copied exit orders.
- The combined contract count on that follower account exceeds the limit set by the broker's RMS, and you see this error.
How to prevent it
As a general practice, start a new trade only once all follower accounts show no open positions and no active orders. If timing mismatches keep causing this error anyway, Replikanto has two features built for this exact situation.
Option 1: ATM Copy
ATM Copy stops copying exit orders from the leader entirely. Instead, each follower manages its own exits through its own NinjaTrader ATM (Advanced Trade Management) strategy.
- You need to trade within NinjaTrader Desktop using an ATM Strategy.
- Each follower's ATM strategy must use the exact same name and configuration as the leader's — see Could a follower's ATM strategy be different from the leader's?
- Enable it from the Replikanto menu, then toggle the triangle indicator green for each follower account you want covered.
Note: even with ATM Copy enabled, any price change or cancellation the leader makes to its own exit orders is still sent to the followers.
Option 2: Market Only (Copy Executions Only)
Market Only copies just the leader's market executions to followers — no other order type, including exit orders, is copied. Since exit orders are never copied, this error can't occur unless you configure Replikanto to copy more contracts than the RMS allows. Full setup details are in Copy Market Orders (Executions) only.
- Enable it from the Market Copy column in the followers list inside Replikanto — it appears as a diamond-shaped icon next to each follower account.
- Turning this on for a follower disables the ATM Copy column for that same follower — the two options are mutually exclusive per account.
- Because followers always execute via market orders, some slippage between leader and follower fills is expected.
- If synchronization becomes a concern after switching to Market Only, see Follower Guard: Overview.
