Why can't I copy trades over my local network?

It's very likely that the firewall on the follower PC is blocking communication. To find out if this is the problem, you'll do a test by turning off the firewall on the follower machine (domain, public and private). If the trade is copied when the firewall is turned off, turn the firewall back on and add a rule.

Quick Diagnosis: Is the Firewall Blocking Replikanto?

Before configuring firewall rules, verify that the firewall is indeed the issue:

1. Temporarily disable Windows Firewall on the follower PC (Domain, Public, and Private profiles)
2. Test trade copying - place a trade on the leader and check if it copies to the follower
3. If copying works with firewall disabled, you've confirmed the firewall is blocking Replikanto
4. Re-enable the firewall and follow the steps below to add a proper rule

If disabling the firewall doesn't solve the issue, see the Troubleshooting section below.

What is Network Mode?

Network Mode (Network Node Mode (Local Network), turned on in the follower machine's Replikanto window) allows Replikanto to copy trades between machines on the same local network. Copying over the internet is a separate mode, Remote Node Mode (Internet), which does not use this port or need this inbound rule. For local network copying, the follower machine needs to accept incoming connections from the leader on port 4547 (or your custom port). Windows Firewall blocks these connections by default, which is why you need to create an inbound rule.

On the follower machine, right-click the left panel of the Replikanto window and choose Network Node Mode (Local Network). Remote Node Mode (Internet), just below it, is the separate internet mode.

Configuring Windows Defender Firewall

Step 1: Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security

Step 2: Create a New Inbound Rule

Right-click Inbound Rules and select New Rule...

Step 3: Select Rule Type

Choose Custom and click Next

Step 4: Configure Protocol and Port

• Protocol Type: Select TCP
• Local Port: Specify port 4547 (or your custom Replikanto port)

This approach only allows Replikanto's port, making it more secure - especially important for Public profile.

Step 5: Configure Action

Select Allow the connection and click Next

Step 6: Select Profile (Important!)

Default: Select only Private

For most home/office networks, select only the Private profile.

If still not working: You may need to also apply the rule to the Public profile and test again. This is sometimes necessary depending on your network configuration.

For Virtual Machines (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V): Select Public

VM network adapters often appear as Public network connections in Windows, so VMs typically require the Public profile.

Step 7: Name and Finish

1. Enter a name like "Replikanto Network Mode - Port 4547"
2. Click Finish

Step 8: Test the Configuration

Place a limit order on the leader account and verify that it copies to the follower. If it works, your firewall rule is correctly configured!

Troubleshooting

Trades Still Not Copying After Firewall Configuration

If you've configured the firewall rule and trades still aren't copying:

1. Verify Network Mode is enabled on the follower: its tab is in Network Node Mode (Local Network) and the box under Node IP and Port is ticked (it reads Uncheck to turn it off). The leader machine does not use this mode: it only needs the follower's node in its Replikanto Nodes list, turned on
2. Check the Network Adapter setting - ensure the correct network interface is selected
3. Verify port number - ensure the Port of the follower's node in the leader's Replikanto Nodes list is the port the follower shows under Node IP and Port (default: 4547)
4. Check for third-party firewalls - Norton, McAfee, or other antivirus software may have their own firewall that needs configuration
5. Test network connectivity - try pinging the follower machine from the leader
6. Check Windows Firewall logs - review if the rule is being triggered or if another rule is taking precedence

The follower machine ready to receive: 1 = Node IP and Port (the port the firewall rule must open and the leader must use), 2 = the box that turns receiving on (ticked, it reads Uncheck to turn it off), 3 = the follower accounts turned on.

Third-Party Firewall Software

If you're using third-party firewall or antivirus software (Norton, McAfee, Bitdefender, etc.), you'll need to configure that software's firewall instead of or in addition to Windows Firewall. Consult your software's documentation for allowing inbound connections on port 4547.
