How do I copy trades between machines over the Internet?

Overview

Replikanto has a feature that allows it to receive trades from another Replikanto via the internet (when both are inaccessible via LAN - local network). In this case, you can send trades from a Replikanto to another Replikanto running anywhere in the world. Because it is necessary to use our servers to send the trades, the leader Replikanto must have credits that are used to send the trades, and all Replikantos must have valid licenses.

Prerequisites

Before setting up remote copy trading, ensure you have:

• Valid licenses: All Replikanto instances (leader and followers) must have active licenses
• Credits: The leader Replikanto must have sufficient credits to send trades remotely. Credits can be purchased here. For more details about credit requirements, see Who needs Remote Mode credits: the leader or follower?
• Internet connection: Both machines must have stable internet connections
• Same Replikanto version on the leader and the followers: Keep the leader and every remote follower on the same Replikanto version. A 1.7.0.0 leader still sends trades to followers on older versions, but the 1.7.0.0 fix for a remote follower that could hold back the leader's next trade after a brief connection problem applies only once the remote follower runs 1.7.0.0.

Note: For information about the challenges and limitations of remote copy trading, see The challenges of remote copy trading with Replikanto. If your machines are on the same local network, consider using local network copy trading instead, which does not require credits.

Finding Your Remote Replikanto ID

Each Replikanto instance has a unique Remote ID that identifies it for remote connections. To find your Remote ID:

1. Open Replikanto on the machine
2. Look for the Remote ID displayed in the main interface
3. Note this ID - you will need to provide it to the leader Replikanto

Setting Up the Follower

To configure the Replikanto follower to become a client receiving trades from another Replikanto using the internet:

1. Open Replikanto on the follower machine
2. Right-click inside the Replikanto window and select Remote Node Mode (Internet), then check the box under Remote Replikanto ID (Check to turn it on). When the mode is on, the box text changes to Uncheck to turn it off.
3. Select the follower accounts that will be copying the Replikanto leader's trades

On the follower machine: right-click inside the Replikanto window > Remote Node Mode (Internet).

Important: Do not forget to select the follower accounts that will be copying the Replikanto leader's trades.

Setting Up the Leader

After setting up the Replikanto follower, you will need to configure the leader to send trades to the remote follower:

1. Open Replikanto on the leader machine
2. Locate the Replikanto Nodes section below the Follower Accounts grid; the Remote Replikanto ID list is its right half
3. Register the follower's Remote Replikanto ID in your list of nodes
4. Click on the circle next to the node to enable sending trades to the remote node

The circle should light up, indicating that remote trade sending is enabled for this node.

Testing the Connection

After configuring both the follower and leader:

1. Send a test trade to the leader account set up in the leader Replikanto
2. Use the same instrument selected in both configurations
3. Verify that the trade arrives in the follower Replikanto
4. Check that the position size and other parameters match

Place the test trade on a leader account that is connected to your broker or live data feed. Replikanto never sends trades to remote followers from a leader on NinjaTrader's Simulated Data Feed or Playback connection; those trades are copied only to followers on the leader's own computer. The followers can use Sim accounts on any connection.

Troubleshooting

If remote trades are not copying to your followers:

• Verify both Replikanto instances have valid licenses
• Check that the leader has sufficient credits
• Ensure the Remote Replikanto ID is correctly entered in the leader's node list
• Confirm the circle next to the node is lit up (enabled)
• Check your internet connection on both machines
• Verify that follower accounts are properly selected
• Confirm that Remote Node Mode (Internet) is on in the follower (the box under Remote Replikanto ID reads Uncheck to turn it off)

If the connection to the Replikanto server drops

• Starting with Replikanto 1.7.0.0, after a passing connection error Replikanto keeps trying to reconnect on its own, and Remote Node Mode stays on. While it is disconnected, trades are not copied over the internet. The Log tab shows The connection to the Replikanto server was lost; reconnecting., then Still trying to reconnect to the Replikanto server., and Reconnected to the Replikanto server after N attempt(s). once it is back.
• If Replikanto gives up after many attempts, the Log shows Gave up reconnecting to the Replikanto server after N attempts. You do not have to restart NinjaTrader: on the follower, uncheck the box under Remote Replikanto ID and check it again to reopen the connection. Restarting NinjaTrader also works.
• On versions before 1.7.0.0, a single connection error could turn Remote Node Mode off on the follower without warning, and the connection came back only after restarting NinjaTrader. Update the leader and the followers to 1.7.0.0.
• Keep the leader and every remote follower on the same Replikanto version. The 1.7.0.0 fix for a remote follower that could hold back the leader's next trade (copying it late, only when the next trade arrived, or not at all) applies only once the remote follower runs 1.7.0.0.
