Why is the follower's position opposite to the leader's?

This article explains why a follower account's position can end up on the opposite side from the leader (e.g., leader Long, follower Short) and how to prevent it using Replikanto's built-in features.

Understanding the problem

An inverted position occurs when the market fills the leader's entry limit order but does not fill the follower accounts' entry orders (which are copied from the leader). This timing mismatch means the leader's exit orders get submitted and may fill before the follower's entry order ever fills. The result: the follower ends up with a position on the wrong side.

This typically happens in fast-moving markets where limit orders fill at different times across accounts.

Solution options

Replikanto provides two features to prevent opposite-direction positions:

ATM Copy

Uses NinjaTrader's ATM strategy to manage the follower's exit orders instead of copying them from the leader account. The follower's exit orders are controlled by its own ATM logic, keeping entry and exit properly synchronized.

Follower Guard

If the problem persists

If you continue to experience inverted positions after enabling one or both features:

• Verify that the feature is properly enabled in your Replikanto configuration.
• Check that the leader and follower accounts have adequate liquidity and similar fill conditions.
• Review your order types and timing — market orders reduce the risk of entry timing mismatches compared to limit orders.
