Why is my follower yellow? (Out of sync)

A follower account in Replikanto may display a yellow circle instead of a green one to indicate that it is out of sync with the leader account. This is a visual indication that the accounts have become desynchronized or mismatched, and it serves as an alert that you should investigate the discrepancy. The yellow indicator does not prevent trades from being copied automatically, but it signals that manual intervention or close monitoring may be needed.

The leader Sim101 is Long 2 ES 12-26. 1 = Sim102 copied the trade and stays green; 2 = Sim103 has no position, so it is out of sync and shows yellow. Sim104 is off (grey).

Common reasons why follower accounts become out of sync

Several scenarios can cause a follower account to show the yellow out-of-sync indicator. Understanding these causes is the first step to resolving synchronization issues and preventing them from recurring.

• The leader has a position opened and the follower does not — This may occur if the follower had insufficient margin, if a trade was manually closed on the follower, or if the follower encountered an error when attempting to enter the position.
• The follower has a position opened and the leader does not — This typically happens when a position is closed on the leader account but fails to close on the follower, or if a position was opened manually on the follower without mirroring on the leader.
• The leader and follower have positions open on different sides — For example, the leader may be long (buying) while the follower is short (selling), or vice versa. This misalignment can occur due to partial fills, order modifications, or manual trading on either account.
• A follower's order was not completely filled — If the leader's order fills completely but the follower's order only partially fills (or fails to fill), the positions will differ in size, triggering the out-of-sync indicator.
• Manual trading or position modifications — Any manual intervention on either the leader or follower account (such as adjusting position sizes, stop losses, or take profits independently) can cause the accounts to diverge.
• Connectivity or platform issues — Temporary disconnections, platform restarts, or API delays between the leader and follower can result in missed or delayed trade execution.
• Your Replikanto is older than 1.7.0.0 and the follower uses a sizing method — With a Ratio with decimals, Available Cash, Net Liquidation, Pooled Quantity, Pct Change or Pre Allocation, versions before Replikanto 1.7.0.0 could show a correctly sized follower as yellow. With Flatten the follower if it becomes out of sync enabled, Follower Guard would then close and disarm it. This is fixed starting with Replikanto 1.7.0.0: update to the latest version.

What to do when accounts are out of sync

When you see the yellow indicator, follow these steps to diagnose and resolve the synchronization issue:

Compare positions in Control Center > Positions: 1 = the leader Sim101 is Long 2 ES 12-26; 2 = Sim102 matches it. Sim103 has no row at all: it holds no position, which is why it is yellow.

1. Compare positions — Check both the leader and follower accounts side-by-side to identify exactly which positions or orders differ. Note any discrepancies in direction, size, entry price, or open orders.
2. Identify the cause — Review the scenarios above to determine what likely caused the mismatch. Was it a failed order, manual intervention, or a connectivity issue? To see exactly why Replikanto marked the follower, open the NinjaTrader Log tab and look for the Info [1064] line for that follower: it shows the reason (direction or quantity) and the leader, follower and expected quantities.
3. Decide on corrective action — Based on the cause, choose the appropriate fix:
   • If a follower failed to enter a position, you may need to enter it manually.
   • If positions are on opposite sides, close one side to align them.
   • If position sizes differ due to a partial fill, adjust the follower's position to match. With a Ratio with decimals, Available Cash, Net Liquidation, Pooled Quantity or Pre Allocation, first check the expected quantity in the Info [1064] line: these methods round each leader entry down separately, so a follower can correctly hold fewer contracts than the leader's position multiplied by the ratio.
   • If manual trading caused the issue, avoid future manual trades on either account.
4. Monitor closely — After correcting the mismatch, watch both accounts for the next several trades to confirm that synchronization has been restored and is functioning correctly.

Risks of leaving accounts out of sync

While the yellow indicator itself does not stop copy trading, leaving accounts desynchronized for extended periods can lead to:

• Unexpected losses — If the leader closes a winning position but the follower remains open, the follower may lose gains or incur losses that the leader did not experience.
• Missed opportunities — A follower may miss out on profitable trades if it fails to enter positions that the leader takes.
• Amplified drawdowns — In volatile markets, even small positional mismatches can result in significantly different outcomes between leader and follower accounts.

Prevention and best practices

To minimize the risk of synchronization issues:

Properties > Follower Guard: 1 = Disarm Followers; 2 = Flatten the follower if it becomes out of sync, and after how many seconds. With both on, a follower that stays out of sync while it holds a position or working orders is flattened after those seconds and disarmed until you click Rearm.

• Use Follower Guard — If you use the Follower Guard feature, accounts can be automatically disarmed if they become out-of-sync. This safety feature helps prevent runaway losses by stopping copy trading when a mismatch is detected.
• Avoid manual trades — Do not manually open, close, or modify positions on either the leader or follower account. Let Replikanto handle all trade copying automatically.
• Ensure sufficient margin — Make sure follower accounts always have enough margin to execute orders. Low margin is a common cause of failed fills.
• Check connectivity — Verify that both the leader and follower platforms are running and connected, especially after platform updates or network issues.
• Review periodically — Even without a yellow indicator, it's good practice to periodically compare leader and follower positions to catch and address any subtle discrepancies early.

The yellow indicator is a helpful alert, but understanding why the desynchronization occurred and taking corrective action promptly is essential to maintaining smooth and accurate copy trading between your accounts.
