Unhandled exception: Could not find a part of the path

This article covers the "Unhandled exception: Could not find a part of the path" error that can appear when you install or update an add-on in NinjaTrader Desktop. This is an issue between NinjaTrader and Microsoft OneDrive, and it has to be resolved by the NinjaTrader support team.

Symptoms

• NinjaTrader shows Unhandled exception: Could not find part of the path 'C:\Users\OneDrive\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\etc' while importing a NinjaScript add-on.
• A closely related variant appears: Unhandled exception: Access to the path 'C:\Users\OneDrive\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\etc' is denied.
• NinjaTrader shuts down on its own during an install or update.
• The failure happens with any third-party add-on, not only ours.
• Your system information shows Microsoft OneDrive is running.

Cause

In rare cases the Documents/NinjaTrader 8 folder fails to sync properly with OneDrive. NinjaTrader can then no longer reach the folder it needs, and NinjaScript add-on imports stay blocked until that sync problem is fixed. It is not caused by the add-on you are installing.

What to do: contact NinjaTrader support

This is a platform-level issue between NinjaTrader and OneDrive, so we are not able to resolve it for you — the NinjaTrader support team is. Please contact them directly:

• Email support@ninjatrader.com

When you contact them, it helps to mention:

• The exact error text and the full path shown in it.
• That Microsoft OneDrive is running on your PC and backing up your Documents folder.
• That the error is not specific to one third-party add-on — it happens with any add-on you try to import while OneDrive is configured this way. Making this clear helps them diagnose the root cause faster.

Once NinjaTrader helps you resolve the OneDrive incompatibility, you will be able to install and update any add-on — ours and third-party — normally within NinjaTrader.
