When using an ATM Strategy with multiple targets, NinjaTrader distributes the contracts according to the quantities specified in the strategy's definition.
- The quantity left over after distribution is always allocated to the first target. This is a rule of NinjaTrader.
- You can change the distribution by changing the quantities in your ATM strategy.
ATM (Advanced Trade Management) Strategies enable the automatic placement of predefined Stop Loss and Profit Target orders once an Entry order is executed. These exit orders are configured with One Cancels the Other (OCO) functionality, ensuring that when either the Profit Target or Stop Loss is triggered, the remaining order is automatically canceled. This setup is commonly referred to as a 'bracket order'.
When building an ATM Strategy, each Profit Target must be greater than the Profit Target before it. Also each Stop Loss must be equal to or greater than the Stop Loss before it. For example, the Profit Target for 1 Target must be less than the Profit Target for 2 Target, and the Stop Loss for 1 Target must be equal to or less than the Stop Loss for 2 Target.
- For multi-target strategies, each Profit Target must be higher than the one before it and each Stop Loss must be equal to or farther away than the one before it.
- For a target in your ATM Strategy to have a Stop Loss only, set the Profit Target to zero.
- Ensure the total number of contracts across all targets matches the Order Quantity set in the ATM Strategy Parameters window.
- Take into account if you are using the ATM Copy feature with the Ratio or Pre-Allocation copy method that the quantity that will be used in the ATM Strategy may be different in each follower, this quantity will depend on the calculation method and the distribution in the Targets defined in the strategy will be performed by NinjaTrader, so when defining the quantity of contracts always think about the quantities that the followers will work with.
ATM Strategies cannot be applied to open positions when using the Replikanto. If you have opened a position which is currently unprotected by an ATM Strategy, and if you add a pre-defined ATM Strategy to that position from the Positions tab by right clicking on the instrument row, selecting Apply ATM Strategy and selecting the desired pre-defined ATM Strategy Template from this sub-menu the Replikanto will not be able to copy this applied ATM Strategy to the followers.
When using the Replikanto add-on, the allocation of the contract quantity to the targets when using an ATM Strategy is done by NinjaTrader and not by Replikanto when using ATM Copy feature. In this case, NinjaTrader will distribute all the contracts according to the quantities determined during the strategy definition (targets), the quantity left over after distribution is always allocated to the first target, this is a NinjaTrader rule. You can change the distribution by changing the quantities in your ATM strategy.
